Overall, surfing and snowboarding may look similar from a distance but require developing distinctive skills. Making the transition has taken a lot of time practicing the basics, battling through wipeouts, and learning how to read the waves. But the thrill of catching and riding that perfect wave was worth the effort. The meditative quality of surfing, being totally in tune with the ocean, is unlike anything I've experienced snowboarding on the mountain. While I still love to hit the slopes each winter, surfing has given me a whole new outlet for playing in nature.
