Sandra Bullock is an American-German actress and producer. She has received various awards and nominations, including an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award, She was the world's highest-paid actress in 2010 and 2014. In 2010, she was named one of Time's 100 most influential people in the world.

Bullock was born in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Helga (née Meyer), an opera singer and voice teacher from Germany, and John W. Bullock, an Army employee and part-time voice coach from Birmingham, Alabama. Her father, who was in charge of the Army's Military Postal Service in Europe, was stationed in Nuremberg when he met her mother. Bullock's maternal grandfather was a German rocket scientist from Nuremberg. The family returned to the United States when she was three years old.

She grew up in various parts of the country but primarily in the Washington, D.C. area. Bullock's mother was a singer who met her father when they were both working at the United States Army base in Nuremberg, Germany. Her father was an employee of the Army Materiel Command and her mother an opera singer and voice teacher. Bullock has a younger sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, who was in the United States Air Force and is now a pilot for United Airlines.

The family moved frequently, and Bullock attended nine different schools. She was also a big fan of the outdoors and particularly liked to ski and skate. Bullock was a cheerleader for three years in high school, and she played softball. She also played on a softball team in Harlem, which was her first experience of acting. Bullock has said that she wanted to be a lawyer when she was growing up, but that her mother insisted that she continue to study acting.

After graduating from high school, Bullock attended North Carolina State University, where she studied drama and theater. She originally planned to become a lawyer but changed her mind and decided to pursue a career in acting. After her first year of college, she made a decision to move to Hollywood to pursue her dreams of becoming an actress.
